Swinburne FC Bids Farewell to Rising Star Thijs van Amerongen

Thomas Burchsmith

Swinburne FC can announce the departure of Thijs van Amerongen, who has secured a move nine tiers higher to National Premier Leagues (NPL) outfit, Dandenong Thunder.

Thijs, a versatile footballer with a promising future, made a single league appearance in the Metropolitan 2 South-East for the Burners and played a memorable role in the inaugural Legends Cup.

Thijs has little to say in response to the announcement but did say this;

Whaaaaa ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ

We’re not sure what it means but it sounds positive.

Mixed reactions came in from the Burners’ community with 2023 Player of the Season Mackenzie Hyder saying

I got booted off penalties for this guy

Another former player Damien Salvatore had this to say;

9 tiers higher? I dispossessed this guy 2 times in 45 mins. Thatโ€™s facts.

Dandenong Thunder SC, based in Melbourne’s south-east, is an Albanian Australian-backed club competing in the state’s top level.

Swinburne FC are proud to have played a role in Thijs’ development and we stand by our proud record of propelling talent up the Australian footballing pyramid.

The club’s Head Coach Joel Kleber added his thoughts

Want to play NPL, come through our club first ๐Ÿ˜€ We have a proven model.
The club wishes Thijs all the best and thanks him for his services to the Burners.
